#88 - Introducing Guyset Magazine
Feb 4, 2025
I started a magazine! The first-ever issue of Guyset Magazine is live at theguyset.com
In this episode, you’ll find out why I started this magazine and how my vision for Guyset is finally coming to life. The podcast isn't going anywhere, don't worry. If anything this will enhance it.
There’s always an opportunity to do something different, do something better. An opportunity to create what you don’t see, what you’re looking for. So I created what I’ve been looking for, for the last 5 years. A new generation of tools, tips, and advice for what guys are really wondering about, what guys actually want to know, and what should be talked about. Welcome to the next generation of advice for guys. Welcome to Guyset magazine.
Introducing Guyset Magazine: The First Real Advice Resource for Guys in Their 20s
Why we created the one-stop shop for authentic guy advice that doesn't exist anywhere else
After years of searching for real, relatable advice tailored to guys in their 20s and coming up empty-handed, we decided to stop waiting and create it ourselves. Today marks the launch of something completely new: Guyset Magazine – the first monthly publication designed specifically to answer the questions guys actually ask but don't know where to find answers to.
The Problem: Guys Have Questions, But No Real Answers
Here's the reality: there's a massive gap in advice and resources for young men. While women have countless magazines, websites, and communities offering practical guidance on everything from career moves to relationship advice, guys are left to figure it out alone or turn to anonymous Reddit forums.
Sure, there are publications like GQ that technically target men, but let's be honest – when was the last time you could relate to an article about $3,000 watches or celebrity lifestyle tips? These publications aren't speaking to the guy wondering "How do I know if I should go in for the kiss after a first date?" or "What should I wear to work?"
What Guyset Magazine Actually Is
Guyset Magazine combines everything we've been building through our podcast and blog into one comprehensive monthly resource. It's not trying to be the male version of an existing publication – it's something entirely different.
The Three-Part Guyset Universe
Weekly Podcast (Every Tuesday) – Real conversations with real people about the topics guys actually think about
Daily Blog Posts – Quick, practical advice on specific questions guys are asking
Monthly Magazine – A curated compilation of the month's best content, insights, and recommendations
What You'll Find Inside
Real Questions from Real Guys
The foundation of Guyset Magazine is built on actual questions from our community. Here's a sample of what guys are really wondering about:
Dating & Relationships:
How do I know if I should go in for the kiss after the first date?
When should we start splitting the bill on dates?
What should I wear on my first date?
How do I know if she likes me?
How do I move on after she ghosted me?
Career & Life:
How do I ask my boss for a raise?
How do I stop feeling so lonely?
How do I stop comparing myself to my friends?
How can I feel more confident?
How do I stop overthinking so much?
Practical Everyday Stuff:
What shampoo do guys use?
Should I be wearing cologne?
What kind of skincare do you do?
What do I make for dinner?
How do I tell my roommate to take out the trash?
What Guys Are Actually Wearing
Forget the expensive, out-of-touch fashion advice. Our "What Guys Are Wearing" section features real outfits from real guys on the street. No $500 sneakers or designer everything – just practical, affordable style inspiration you can actually use.
Guest Perspectives & Expert Advice
Every month, we compile insights from podcast guests who've shared their experiences. Whether it's career transitions, body image, dating advice, or mental health, you get multiple perspectives from guys who've actually been through what you're going through.
Monthly Recommendations
Discover what's worth your time – books, podcasts, shows, and experiences that are genuinely worth checking out, not just what's trending or sponsored.
Why This Needed to Exist
The Competition Isn't Actually Competition
When we started researching existing publications, we realized something shocking: nobody is actually doing this. The publications that claim to offer advice for men are either:
Celebrity-focused and completely unrelatable
Luxury-oriented with advice that doesn't apply to normal budgets
Politically charged rather than practically helpful
Anonymous forums that are impossible to navigate or search
The Inspiration Behind the Name
Guyset comes from combining "guys" and "mindset" – because at its core, this is about building a better mindset through community, honest conversation, and practical advice. It's a toolkit for your mental health and daily life.
The Vision: More Than Just a Magazine
An Organized Solution to Scattered Advice
One of the biggest problems with finding advice online is that it's completely disorganized. You can't easily search for "how to ask for a raise" and find comprehensive, trustworthy guidance tailored to your situation.
Guyset Magazine, combined with our daily blog and weekly podcast, creates a searchable, organized database of advice on topics guys actually care about. Need dating advice? It's all in one place. Career guidance? We've got you covered. Basic life skills? Yep, those too.
Building a Community, Not Just Content
This isn't about one person having all the answers. The goal is to create a community where guys can share experiences, learn from each other, and realize they're not alone in figuring things out.
What Makes This Different
Authentic, Not Aspirational
We're not trying to sell you a lifestyle you can't afford or relate to. This is advice from guys who are figuring it out alongside you, sharing what's actually worked and what hasn't.
Practical, Not Theoretical
Every piece of advice is actionable. No philosophical deep-dives without practical application. If we're talking about confidence, we're giving you specific steps to build it.
Honest About Not Having It Figured Out
The best part? We're honest about still figuring things out. This isn't coming from a place of "expert authority" but from a place of "let's figure this out together."
The Merchandise: More Than Just Swag
The Guyset hoodie isn't just merchandise – it's a visual representation of what we're building. Designed by toasted by Eli (an Instagram artist with 150K followers), it features a "toolkit" graphic with different guys working together on various tasks.
The imagery represents exactly what Guyset is: a bunch of guys coming together to create a toolkit for navigating life, sharing advice, and supporting each other through the challenges of young adulthood.
What's Coming Next
Daily Blog Posts
Starting now, we'll publish daily blog posts on guyset.com answering specific questions from our community. These aren't long-form articles – they're quick, practical responses to real questions guys are asking.
Expanded Guest Network
As we grow, more experts and regular guys will contribute perspectives, creating a diverse library of advice on every topic you can think of.
Interactive Features
The goal is to make this as useful as possible, which means adding search functionality, question submission forms, and ways for the community to contribute their own advice and experiences.
Why Now?
The Mental Health Crisis
Guys are struggling with mental health at unprecedented rates, but traditional resources don't speak to their experiences or communication styles. We need spaces designed specifically for how guys process emotions and seek help.
The Advice Gap
The internet is full of advice, but most of it isn't tailored to young men's specific situations and challenges. Generic life advice doesn't hit the same when you're dealing with issues that feel uniquely masculine.
The Community Need
Social media has connected us in some ways but left us more isolated in others. Young men especially are lacking communities where they can be vulnerable, ask questions, and get support without judgment.
What Success Looks Like
Success isn't measured in magazine sales or podcast downloads – it's measured in impact. When a guy reads our advice on asking for a raise and actually gets one. When someone learns to be more confident on dates. When guys start talking more openly about their struggles and supporting each other.
Join the Movement
Guyset Magazine is available now at theguyset.com (we're fixing the regular guyset.com URL). It's completely free because this isn't about monetizing your insecurities – it's about creating the resource we all wish had existed when we were figuring things out.
How to Get Involved
Read the magazine and share what resonates with you
Submit your questions – they become the foundation for future content
Share your experiences – your story might help another guy going through the same thing
Spread the word – if this helps you, it'll probably help your friends too
The Bottom Line
For too long, guys have been expected to figure everything out on their own or rely on outdated stereotypes about masculinity. Guyset Magazine represents a new approach: honest conversation, practical advice, and genuine community.
We're not trying to tell you who to be – we're trying to help you become the best version of yourself, whatever that looks like. Whether you're wondering about basic life skills, navigating relationships, building confidence, or just trying to feel less alone in all of this, you'll find something here.
This is just the beginning. Welcome to the next generation of advice for guys. Welcome to Guyset.
