IYGOADTW: Alix Earle vs. Alex Cooper, Coachella Weekend 2, and Noah Kahan’s Documentary
Apr 16, 2026
TRANSCRIPT
Welcome back to If You're Going On Date This Week, my show where I talk about everything going on in the world in terms of pop culture, movies, music, TV shows, sports, entertainment, really anything you could talk about on your date this week. Of course, these are also conversation topics you can talk about with friends, with your girlfriend, with your boyfriend, with your coworkers, with your family, with your friends, like really anybody.
The guardrails for this show are that any topic you could bring up on a date or you could know that the other person might be thinking about talking about listening, watching, reading, whatever. so they're never that serious. The conversation topics are always gonna be pop culture, entertainment, nothing like world news because that's not the point of this show. The point is that you could talk about them on a date, but like it's also just kind of a pop culture slash entertainment slash movie, TV show, recap show.
every Monday and Thursday. So here are the topics today. And in the timestamps below, you can find all the different topics. You can skip forward to the things you're interested in. You can listen to the whole show because that's more fun. You never know what I'm gonna say or what I'm gonna talk about. And like, why not stay with me the whole time because it's fun. Okay. The first topic is the topic that has taken the entire internet by storm, the Alex versus Alex saga.
Alex Earl versus Alex Cooper, Licks versus Lex, if you will. Alex Earl as, basically to like give you a quick like maybe one minute summary of what is going on is that Alex Cooper got on her Instagram and was like, hey, Alex Earl, what is the beef between you and me? Like, what do you have against me? Because I have nothing to hide. Like, I know what happened. I know the story. So stop like hiding behind your reposts and your liking things like
I see it, it's shady, like just tell me what the beef is and like let's get it out there. That post now has like 22 million views on Instagram and the entire internet was like thrown into fire when Alex Cooper posted that awaiting Alex Cooper's or Earl's response, like waiting for what she's gonna say, what's gonna happen next, what all this drama is, what all this beef is about. And to give you like a quick little summary of, and I said on last week's episode, or last Monday, so like two days ago's episode.
Josh Felgoise (02:22.712)
I would give like a little summary of what's going on here. Basically, Alex Earl was signed to Alex Cooper's network called Unwell. Cooper, the Alex is confusing. Maybe I'll just call them Cooper and Earl. Alex Cooper, as I continue to not Alex Cooper created a network called Unwell that has call her daddy and has a bunch of other shows under it. It's just basically a podcast network. So like this podcast is not signed to any network beside my own.
called Guy Set that I've created. But maybe one day it could be, like basically like your podcast can get signed to a network and under that network they can then put ads on your show, they can help you with guests and booking and like they just kind of become like a talent agent or a manager for your podcast. A really popular one is called Dear Media. There's a bunch of them. Like every one of your most successful favorite podcasts lives in a network literally like.
an ABC, an NBC, a Netflix, a Hulu, all that same concept, but for podcasts. So Alex Cooper announced that she signed Alex Earl around 2023. I feel like it was like maybe around June and they were announcing her show called Hot Mess. And around that same time, everybody was kind of like, whoa, like that's the most insane move Cooper could have made because Earl was like the hottest thing on the scene. Alex Earl.
There was this like up and coming super successful, super hot influencer. Like everybody wanted her. Everybody wanted anything to do with her. Any brand deal, basically like anything she did and still does, it turns to gold. Like she can sell anything. She can create anything. She creates buzz whenever she moves, whenever she talks, like whatever she does creates a story and creates a headline. And that has proven to be true for the past three years of her influencer career. Sorry, this is siren. So I'm going to actually, I'll just keep going.
I was, I was just, I was trying to talk through it and then I'm just going to keep talking through it. So basically. Earl was signed and around that same time, everyone was like, this is the most insane move for Cooper because like now any threat that Earl had to Cooper, like they're in the same boat, like, because at the same time they were these two blondes, they're both named Alex, like both maybe making podcasts, both in the industry, both kind of competing for the same audience in a way, but like at the same time, not really at all.
Josh Felgoise (04:42.469)
So Cooper signing her was a really, really great business move on her part. And people were kind of like, why would Earl start a podcast? Like she's an influencer. She's just like a Miami student. Like there's a million things she could do. She's going out drinking, partying, having fun, like doing whatever, like why have a podcast? But at around that same time, it was just like a podcast frenzy. Everybody started podcasts. I started a podcast called Guys, set around that same time.
So I felt like I was in a good class of people with Alex Earl, with like Jake Shane, like these people that started podcasts around the same time. And about a year into the podcast, it kind of like, I don't know if Cooper didn't like Earl's show or Earl didn't like doing it. It just kind of felt like it wasn't working. And it was announced that Alex Cooper's unwell has dropped Alex Earl. And like...
Who would drop Alex Earl? Like why would you drop the most successful influencer? She probably had around five shows under the unwell network at that time, not including call her daddy. So six shows and Alex Earls was by far the most successful, whether it was a good podcast or not, whether Alex liked doing it not, whether the conversation, whatever it was, it was by far the most successful. It probably got around 500,000 listeners. Like every week you can see the YouTube numbers on YouTube. It's like it was successful, whether it was good or not, whether Earl liked it or
So unwell dropping Alex Earl makes no sense. Like there's something there. There was something in the water, something went awry, something happened around that same time. Alex Earl was kind of like, yeah, like, and she was being coy about it. She was also being, she like dropped a couple remarks that people were like, this didn't end well. Like this, and then Earl and Cooper like were never seen in the same room again, like, and they were never said in the same sentence again. And there was an obvious beef. There was an obvious drama.
And there's kind of been like cooking for the past year that Earl has been liking, like she liked Sophia Franklin's book who is notoriously and infamously Alex Cooper's ex-call her daddy co-host, that whole deal went awry. So Earl has been dropping hints that she hates Cooper, basically. And this all came to a head, and like that's kind of the history of it. I gave you like a long seven minute history of Alex Earl versus Alex Cooper.
Josh Felgoise (06:57.05)
It all seems to be stemming from the podcast drama with Unwell and with Hot Mess. In that same da- a couple other details that I think are important or to the story just to give it a little more color. Alex Earle's dad became her manager around the same time so people think that the dad came in and was like this deal structure was really bad there's something here like you didn't get enough money there's something just wasn't working out.
and I think Alex Earl started to really realize her worth around the same time and was like, don't know why the fuck I'm doing this or what this is, but like, want out. so it just seemed like business didn't go right. That's that was as simple as it is, like Alex Earl's podcast under Alex Cooper didn't work out. Business doesn't work out. Sometimes you leave a job. Sometimes you quit. I've quit jobs before. Like you, get it. Like sometimes it just doesn't work out.
Does that mean you then hate the person and want to see them fail? No, but like it can a lot of the times, a lot of the times employees leave disgruntled or the boss hates the employee. Like a lot of the times this shit happens. So nobody really knows what happened still to this day. Nobody really knows. And everybody is kind of waiting for Alex Earl to drop her story and to share her side. And that is what Cooper kind of forced her hand and being like Alex Cooper dropped this video being like, Hey, Alex Earl, like what the fuck is up?
Tell me your side of the story, share it with the rest of the world. I'm sick of all this like petty shit. Just tell me what it is and let's get it out there. So everybody's waiting for Alex Earl to drop her side of the story. And that is what has taken the internet by storm over the past week. So now you are fully debriefed, you are fully caught up to date. Let me just make sure that Alex Earl hasn't posted in the meantime so that like I don't, like that would be crazy if I miss it and then I drop this and it's like it happens right after. Not that there's like a huge audience here waiting for this, but like you never know.
No, she has not dropped anything. The last picture is her with under boob. Yeah. And that probably has like a good Jillian views. Literally everybody is tuning into her page, just like waiting for what she's going to do next. And like in the meantime, she's also kind of like storying with her dog. Like she's working at real actives. Like she seems very unbothered, which is also a good way to buy time, but it does seem like it's not really affecting her. She did drop a video yesterday of her first reaction to seeing Alex Cooper's video. It was two of her friends.
Josh Felgoise (09:11.954)
walking into her room like the Sunday of Coachella being Monday being like, hey, you're probably going to want to see this video. And it's her being like, oh, OK, this just made my day. Like she really didn't seem to give a fuck, which is interesting because that was her first and only reaction to this thing. So that is the first and main story that like you could talk about that like you should know about because you don't have to. Of course, none of this you have to know about, but it's just like fun to catch up on.
The next one is that Coachella week. so I will be back on Monday with another update about this because it's a fun story and it's fun to follow. And like it's it's two really successful people battling over who's going to become more successful in the end and like rising tides rise all ships or whatever the expression is. And they're both going to be totally fine. It's like Kim versus Taylor. They're both two of the most successful people in the world. And they had a huge beef that like probably helped both of their careers. And I think like it's kind of proven that help with their careers. So.
The next one is that Coachella weekend two is this weekend. The headliners are the same as last weekend. It's Sabrina Carpenter on Friday, Justin Bieber on Saturday and Carol G on Sunday. This is going to be probably a less news breaking, news making weekend than last week. But because the headliners are such massive deals and like all three of them are huge celebrities and huge kind of superstars.
I'm assuming there's going to be a ton of videos and a ton of stories that come out of the headliners. I don't know about Coachella itself. feel like weekend two is the chill weekend. The first weekend is kind of like the main splash and like all the influencers, all the brand activations. Weekend two really feels like the music festival. So I'm excited to see like see the videos that come out of all the performances and what people have to say about it all. But that's Coachella weekend two.
The next one is that the Fokker in Law trailer dropped with Ariana Grande, who is starring in it. It dropped yesterday and it comes out this Thanksgiving. And I think it looks so good. It looks like one of those 2010 movies like a true brother doesn't want to, but it doesn't too like those types of movies that we loved as kids that got like 38 % on Rotten Tomatoes, but are like in my hall of fame of favorite movies ever. It looks like a, just a great simple comedy movie, just
Josh Felgoise (11:26.834)
funny, stupid, really enjoyable, fun for the whole family. Ariana Grande's in it, it's gonna draw a massive audience. Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, like you really couldn't have gotten a better cast if you tried. I really like that Ariana Grande has decided to lean into her acting side. I have always thought when she's on SNL, she is one of the best people on SNL. Like every time she hosts, she absolutely fucking crushes it. She leans into this, gets so.
Intensely and so well like she just kind of gives herself over to the skit Doesn't care if she looks like a fool doesn't care if she looks stupid or like an idiot like she fully is immersed into the sketch She is so funny and so like naturally funny that I feel like a comedy movie is the next best step for her So I'm really happy to see her in this I was a little weary of like what it was gonna look like or why she was signing on on the signing on for this but it does seem like she just like having fun and wants to do it and wants to Be a part of comedy movies and just make entertainment
And I really respect that and appreciate that. And I'm very excited for the movie. I will be singing with my family on Thanksgiving. We will be seated at that AMC red recliner. The next one is Noah Khan dropped his documentary on Netflix called Out of Body. I cannot recommend this documentary enough. I watched it Monday night from like 11 to 1 a.m. sobbing, weeping on my couch right over there. Like I was a mess. I think this is one of
the saddest documentaries I've watched, also one of the most vulnerable and honest I've ever seen from a celebrity. If you are interested in Noa Khan, if you're a fan, if you're not a fan, like, I'm telling you, just watch this documentary. It's not an artist spotlight. Like, it's not a... It's not something that is like, you have to be a fan of him to watch. It is just a really amazing piece of, like, art and cinema and, like, movie.
And I think it will I hope it like gets awards like I I really hope it it gets like an Oscar nomination for best documentary I really think it was such a an incredible like intricate intimate portrayal of life growing up his family how he's navigating his fame and his success how he's navigating the relationships with the people around him because of this success
Josh Felgoise (13:42.538)
how humble and how grateful and how honest and how vulnerable he is. I cannot say enough good things about this documentary. You have to watch it. If you're listening to this podcast, you're watching, please go watch it. I think you're gonna learn something. I think you're gonna feel something. I think it is poignant, it is honest. It is just everything I wanted it to be and more. I had extremely high expectations for this documentary. I never watched a trailer for it. I just saw that he was doing it.
And it premiered at South by Southwest and won an award. And I was like, then it's going to be great. And I feel like whatever he does is always with honesty. And I feel like that is where you have to lead from if you're in that type of position or in that type of place. And, he's, he, he did it and the way he talks about like body dysmorphia and his anxiety and his mental health and his depression, like it's, you just don't see somebody at such a height in their career or at such a success.
successful place talking like that and I Think it was amazing. I'm so I loved it so much and I can't wait to watch it again I'm gonna watch it again this weekend the next story is that a total 360 from my like diatribe a positive diatribe of Noah Khan's documentary that Lewis Capaldi was mistaken for Lewis Hamilton and dating Kim Kardashian so somebody tweeted that like
I can't believe Lewis Capaldi is dating Kim Kardashian and Lewis Capaldi responded and was like, me either. Like, I can't believe it either. And like fully leaned into it and it is just hysterical. I love when celebrities get involved in these like really dumb and harmless, like pieces of pop culture or like internet lore. And a lot of the responses were like, like people didn't get the joke at first, which is insane.
but like a lot people did, including myself, and I think it was great. I loved that he leaned into it. Louis Capaldi is dating Kim Kardashian. The next story is that Olivia Rodrigo is dropping her, by the way, like Louis Capaldi is just like this like big, not big in that way, but he's just like this really popular singer. He sang like, before you go, you know the songs, like, you know, let me go to his discography. I feel like every episode I've sang something and I'm sorry for that. I will stop.
Josh Felgoise (16:00.63)
Nobody's told me to stop, but I feel like I should. Louis Kapaldi, he sang Before You Go, uh, someone you loved like
Josh Felgoise (16:13.846)
just so good. He took a long break from music because of his mental health.
Yeah, like me in the corner playing Lewis Capaldi at the pregame. He is so good. And I'm happy to see that he's back and thriving and like I think he's going back on tour. I'm going to go see him. The next maybe I don't know. The next story is that Olivia Rodrigo is dropping her new single tomorrow. It's called Drop Dead. It's the first single from her new album. You seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. New era for Olivia Rodrigo. It's been a few years since she's dropped music. There was
People were like waiting, wishing, willing, hoping that she'd drop music. was rumors that she scrapped an entire album because of a breakup. There was rumors that there was just so many different rumors about this album. And then one day she was just like, Hey, you seem pretty happy for girls though in love. And the new single comes out tomorrow. So I'm excited to hear it. I can't wait to see what she puts out. And I'm excited to see what the reaction is to, because the internet seems to hate everything now. but everyone loves Olivia Rodrigo. So let's see if they still love her after tomorrow.
The next story is that Lena Dunham wrote a new book called Fame Sick. Lena Dunham is the creator of the show Girls and a couple other things, but she wrote, I'm a big fan of the show Girls. I think it's great. I loved it so much. I watched it few years ago. I might rewatch it again. She wrote this book about her experience writing Girls, her experience finding fame, starting fame, and I'm only two hours into the audiobook, so that's all I can tell you right now. They're at like the table read in the book of the first episode.
And it is really interesting to see and hear her perspective of all of this and how she's recalling everything. The experience from starting like making movies to like making short films to being discovered and being thrown into Hollywood in this situation is just really always something I'm interested in hearing about. And I think she's just a very great writer too. So her new book is out and then.
Josh Felgoise (18:16.404)
The last thing is that CinemaCon was this week and Dune 3 with Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya showed the first 7 minutes of Dune. It got amazing reactions from the audience and it's gonna be amazing and I can't wait for Dune 3. another siren to end the episode. Thank you, you guys out there. I really appreciate it. Thanks for listening. Thanks for tuning in.
These are the types of, or these are the conversation topics you could bring up on your date if you want to fall back on one of these things like, or if you want to be like, Oh, I saw that I heard that like that's easy, easy wins, easy conversation starters, easy things to talk about. You can also bring these up with your coworkers, with anybody you want to talk to them about. Um, and that is what is on the table this week. That's in my new saying for this. I might change the topic, change the name to what's on the table. No, I don't know.
Josh Felgoise (19:06.83)
Thanks for listening. Thanks for tuning in and I will see you guys. Oh, I will be back with the updates on Monday. Don't you worry if, and if there's any stories or anything you want me to talk about, write it into my website, guyset.com, G-U-I-S-E-T.com. That's the name of my other podcast, Guy Set, where I answer the questions that guys are asking. And I give like other dating advice, advice on confidence, comparison, mindset, really like anything that goes on in your 20s, I give advice on to like navigate, help navigate your...
life and everything and I love doing that one. That's my first one. I just did 150 episodes of it so you can check that out too. But on the website you can ask me anything right there and I will talk about it in this episode. You can ask for either podcast and I will bring it on to this but let me just check and make sure I'm not missing anything before the weekend so that you feel like you are sufficiently caught up on the pop culture and the world news. Let's see pop culture.
News, there's probably nothing. I feel like I covered everything. I feel like I crushed it today. What is going on? Let's see, today.com. I should have done this before. Martha Stewart has a biopic coming out. Cate Blanchett's gonna play her. Al Roker surprised Anne Hathaway by wearing a Cerulean sweater from Devil Wears Prada three or two.
There's a new book or book to movie adaption called Beach Read and Patrick Schwarzenegger was cast as the guy and Phoebe Drundiver was cast as the girl. The internet seemed to be a little bit disappointed in the casting of Patrick Schwarzenegger. They wanted Dylan Minnette or Dylan one of those Dylans. So sorry to them. I'm sure he'll be great in it. I have nothing against him. I thought he was great in White Lotus. I actually passed him on the street one time and we did like a double take. I was like, are you?
And he was like, are you guys set podcast? Are you the guy who does, if you're going to date this week for the eight episodes out so far? No, we didn't talk, but we did like fully make eye contact. Happy for him. And I think that's the episode. Thanks so much for listening and I will see you on Monday. Have a great date. Bye.
